Preschool Curriculum

Children’s Development Center ensures each child is prepared to enter the Public School for Kindergarten with all the knowledge and skills needed for a successful and smooth transition. Not only do we put a huge focus on independence, self-help skills, and social/emotional development; but we also have well-rounded academic programs in our Young Preschool, Preschool, and Prekindergarten classrooms to ensure a breadth of knowledge for your little learner.

These academic programs include weekly letter, number, shape and color focuses in each age group. As our students get older, we increase our expectations by adding digraphs and word chunks as well as site words to give a well-rounded literacy base. We also use Handwriting Without Tears as well as Scholastic Weekly Readers to give additional literacy time for our oldest age group.

We have created a hands-on Mathematics Journal that incorporates not only the standards derived from the Department of Early Education and Care but the Massachusetts Frameworks for Prekindergarten. This journal is full of fun and colorful shapes, pictures, and equations that mimic hands on materials in our classroom to ensure the students use their whole body to understand new mathematical concepts such as counting, one-to-one correspondence, addition, subtraction, patterns, and more!

Lastly, we feel imagination is one of the most important things we can foster as it enhances the best part about being a kid – playing! Each student receives an “Imagination Station” journal which is filled with short, open-ended questions. Students can spend as much time as they desire during centers to create stories based off these questions. Their stories are never ending and so much fun to look at!

All these activities are weaved into our ample play time as well as gross motor time both outside on our playgrounds and in our large gym space.
